Ask a visitor where to eat in Coral Gables and you will get the famous names. Ask someone who actually lives, works, or went to school here and the answer sounds different: the café where the regulars have a usual order, the bakery that is only open five days a week and still sells out, the steakhouse that has been doing dinner the same way since 1978. This guide is that second list — 11 verified restaurants, cafés, and bakeries across the Gables, organized by the time of day locals use them. Every address, schedule, and link below was checked against the business's own site or official listing. No hype rooms, no places kept alive only by tourists.

Morning: how the Gables starts
1. Threefold Cafe — Giralda Avenue
An Australian-owned, Melbourne-inspired café that has become a morning ritual on Giralda. Threefold Cafe built its name on specialty coffee, flat whites, and smashed avocado toast, and it opens early enough for the before-work crowd. Best for: a slow breakfast, a casual brunch with friends, or a coffee-and-laptop start before the plaza wakes up. Go early on weekends — regulars do.
141 Giralda Ave, Coral Gables · Open daily from 7:30 AM, closing 3 PM Mon–Thu and 4 PM Fri–Sun · $$ · Walk-in café.
2. Bachour — Salzedo Street
Chef Antonio Bachour's Coral Gables bakery and restaurant is where locals take out-of-towners when they want to show off a little. Bachour's menu runs from croissants, macarons, and petite gateaux in the pastry case to full breakfast, brunch, lunch, and early dinner plates. Best for: a celebratory brunch, a pastry box for the office, or dessert as the main event. Reservations help for sit-down meals; the pastry counter moves faster.
2020 Salzedo Street, Coral Gables · Mon–Sat 7 AM–7 PM, Sun 7 AM–5 PM per its official listing · $$ · Takeout and dine-in.
3. Madruga Bakery — South Dixie Highway
The true locals' secret on this list. Madruga Bakery is a small neighborhood bakery and café known for its egg sandwich on a house roll, fresh breads, and simple, well-made breakfast and lunch plates. The catch is the schedule: it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan around it. Best for: a quiet weekday breakfast, bread to take home, or a low-key meet-up away from Miracle Mile.
1430 S Dixie Hwy, Suite 117, Coral Gables · Wed–Fri 8 AM–3 PM, Sat–Sun 8 AM–2 PM, closed Mon–Tue · $ · Takeout-friendly.
Midday: lunch that earns repeat visits
4. Hillstone — Miracle Mile
Some restaurants survive on Miracle Mile because they are consistent every single time, and Hillstone's Coral Gables location is the textbook example. Locals use it for business lunches, family dinners, and the meal with picky relatives, because the American menu — salads, burgers, ribs, steaks, and sushi rolls — covers the whole table. Best for: a lunch where the meeting matters as much as the food. Book ahead; prime lunch and dinner times fill.
201 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables · Sun 11 AM–9 PM, Mon–Fri 11:30 AM–10 PM, Sat 11 AM–10 PM · $$$ · Reservations recommended.
5. Bulla Gastrobar — Ponce de Leon
The original Bulla Gastrobar in Coral Gables is the group lunch and after-work answer: Spanish tapas built for sharing, paella, cured meats, grilled octopus, and sangria, in a room with real energy. Weekend brunch runs Saturdays and Sundays 11 AM–4 PM, and the restaurant is currently advertising a Miami Spice brunch at $40 through October 31, 2026 — confirm the offer on its site before you go. Best for: groups, birthdays, and lunches that turn into long lunches.
2500 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, Coral Gables · Lunch Mon–Fri from 11:30 AM, weekend brunch 11 AM–4 PM · $$–$$$ · Reservations via the official site; metered, garage, and valet parking nearby.
6. Su-Shin Izakaya — Aragon Avenue
A cozy Japanese gastropub a short walk from Miracle Mile, and one of the Gables' longest-running quiet favorites. Su-Shin Izakaya explains the format on its own site: many plates are small, meant to be ordered several at a time and shared, alongside traditional Japanese dishes and daily blackboard specials. Best for: a relaxed lunch special, a sushi-and-small-plates dinner, or introducing someone to izakaya eating without a scene.
159 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables · Lunch Mon–Fri 11:30 AM–3 PM, dinner Mon–Thu 5:30–9:30 PM and Fri–Sat 5:30–10 PM, closed Sun · $$.
Evening: dinner, the local way
7. Talavera Cocina Mexicana — Ponce de Leon
For Mexican food in the Gables, locals point to Talavera Cocina Mexicana, which describes its cooking as a blend of traditional street-market dishes and recipes refined in classic Mexico City restaurants. Expect a full dinner house — guacamole, ceviches, moles, and a deep tequila and mezcal bar — with indoor and patio seating. Best for: date night, a margarita with friends, or a family dinner that is not a chain.
2299 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables · Daily from 12 PM, to 10 PM Sun–Thu and 11 PM Fri–Sat per its listing · $$ · Reservations accepted.
8. Fratellino Ristorante — Miracle Mile
Small, warm, and deliberately intimate, Fratellino describes itself as homemade Italian comfort food and fine dining in the heart of Coral Gables. The menu leans on traditional family-style Italian recipes — handmade pastas are the move — and the room suits a conversation, not a party. Best for: a quiet date, parents in town, or the business dinner where you actually want to hear each other. Call ahead; the dining room is small.
264 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables · Lunch Mon–Sat 12–2:30 PM, dinner from 5:30 PM (to 9 PM Sun–Thu, 9:30 PM Fri–Sat) · $$–$$$ · Reservations recommended.
9. Caffe Abbracci — Aragon Avenue
If Fratellino is the intimate Italian pick, Caffe Abbracci is the old-school institution. The name means “hugs” in Italian, and the restaurant has built decades of regulars on Northern Italian cooking, a proper lunch service on weekdays, and dinner every night. It also has a private banquet room, which is why so many Gables family celebrations end up here. Best for: a classic Italian dinner, a family milestone, or a weekday lunch that feels like an occasion.
318 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables · Lunch Mon–Fri 11:30 AM–3:30 PM, dinner Mon–Thu and Sun 6–10:30 PM, Fri–Sat 6–11 PM · Metered parking nearby; patio and private room.
10. Graziano's — Giralda Avenue
An Argentine family steakhouse with a wood-fired grill at its center. Graziano's in Coral Gables does the full parrilla ritual — grilled provolone and sausages to start, then steaks, short ribs, chicken, and fish off the grill, with a serious wine list leaning Argentine and Italian. Portions run generous, so ordering for the table works well. Best for: meat lovers, big appetites, and dinners where wine matters.
394 Giralda Ave, Coral Gables · Lunch Mon–Fri from 11:30 AM, dinner from 5 PM; Sat from 12 PM and Sun 12–10 PM per its listing · $$$ · Reservations recommended; outdoor seating.
11. Christy's — Ponce de Leon
Close the list with the classic. Christy's has been serving Coral Gables since 1978 — a proper old-line steakhouse built around prime rib, steaks, seafood, its famous Caesar salad, and Baked Alaska for dessert, in an elegant, wood-paneled room with live piano music on the program. Dinner only, and only part of the week, so this is a plan-ahead reservation, not a walk-in. Best for: anniversaries, power dinners, and anyone who thinks a steakhouse should feel like one.
3101 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables · Dinner Tue–Sat from 5:30 PM, to 9:30 PM Tue–Thu and 10 PM Fri–Sat · $$$$ · Reservations strongly recommended.
How we chose
Every pick had to pass the local test: a Coral Gables address, an active official web presence we could verify this week, and a clear job in a local's week — morning coffee, a working lunch, a family dinner, a celebration. We favored places with staying power or a distinctive neighborhood role over places that are simply new, and we spread the list across cuisines and budgets, from a $ bakery breakfast to a $$$$ steakhouse dinner. Hours and programs change, especially around holidays, so confirm the detail that matters — a reservation, a brunch window, a day off — with the restaurant directly before you go.
Gables eating pro tips
Mind the split schedules. Fratellino, Caffe Abbracci, Graziano's, and Su-Shin all close between lunch and dinner, and Madruga is dark on Mondays and Tuesdays. Reserve the small rooms. Fratellino and Christy's fill fast; Hillstone and Bulla book out at prime times. Park once. Most of this list sits within a short walk of Miracle Mile, Giralda, and Ponce — metered street parking, public garages, and valet stands are all in play, and the Coral Gables trolley serves the downtown core. Use the shoulder hours. An early Giralda breakfast at Threefold or a weekday Abbracci lunch is the same kitchen with a fraction of the wait.
