Dog friendly in South Florida is a legal question before it is a lifestyle one. Most public beaches here ban dogs outright, every county writes its own leash rules, and the parks that welcome dogs do it in specific, posted places. This guide rounds up 12 dog-friendly spots across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach — real dog beaches, fenced bark parks with room to run, and one patio with a dog menu — with the rules that matter checked against each city, county, or venue's own page this week.
Pair a dog day with our hidden gems in South Florida, browse more things to do guides, or refuel afterwards at one of the best coffee shops in South Florida.
How we chose these dog-friendly spots
Every pick has its dog access published by the city, county, or business that runs it — no secondhand listings and no guessing. Beaches made the list only where dogs are legally allowed on the sand, in a marked section. Patios made it only where the venue itself says dogs are welcome. Rules, hours, and maintenance closures change, so check the linked official page the day you go — and when a sign at the gate disagrees with anything online, the sign wins.
Miami-Dade County
1. Haulover Park — Miami Beach
The county's two-for-one: Haulover Park runs both a fenced bark park near the south picnic area — separate enclosures for small dogs (under 35 lbs) and large dogs — and a designated dog beach between lifeguard towers #2 and #3. Everywhere else in the park, dogs stay on a leash, and the dog beach permission does not stretch one towel further. Best for: a full beach day with a proper off-leash run built in.
10800 Collins Ave, Miami Beach · Bark park and designated dog beach only · Use parking lots #3 and #4 for dog access · Leashes required outside the designated areas.
2. Amelia Earhart Bark Park — Hialeah
Size wins here. Inside the 515-acre Amelia Earhart Park, the bark park is a five-acre fenced area with a separate section for small dogs, paved walkways, benches, and drinking and spray fountains — and the rest of the park (five lakes, trails, a farm village) is yours to explore on leash afterwards. Best for: big dogs who need real distance, and owners who want a whole park day around the run.
401 E 65th St, Hialeah · Parking free Monday–Thursday, $8 Friday–Sunday and holidays · Office hours Mon–Fri 8:30 AM–4:30 PM.
3. David T. Kennedy Park — Coconut Grove
The Grove's bayfront living room. David T. Kennedy Park pairs its fenced dog areas with a rubberized running path, an outdoor gym, volleyball courts, and open lawn rolling down to Biscayne Bay — the rare dog park where the humans get as good a morning as the dog. Parking fills fast on weekends; go early. Best for: a run for you, a run for them, coffee in the Grove after.
2400 S Bayshore Dr, Miami · Fenced dog areas inside a 20-acre bayfront park · Free admission, limited parking.
4. Glass & Vine — Coconut Grove patio
Most "dog-friendly patios" tolerate your dog. Glass & Vine built for them: the garden restaurant in Peacock Park offers a dedicated dog menu seven days a week, fresh water bowls, and shaded seating under the oaks, minutes from Kennedy Park above. Leashed pets are welcome on the patio. Best for: brunch where your dog orders too.
2820 McFarlane Rd, Miami, inside Peacock Park · Dog menu daily · Reservations recommended on weekends, walk-ins welcome.
Broward County
5. Hollywood Dog Beach — Hollywood
Broward's most generous dog beach deal: the City of Hollywood's dog beach runs between the Pershing and Custer Street lifeguard stands, is free with no pass required, and is open seven days a week, sunrise to sunset. Dogs must carry a current rabies tag, stay under their owner's control, and be leashed anywhere outside the dog beach. Best for: a no-planning-needed beach morning, any day of the week.
4999 N Surf Rd, Hollywood · Free, no pass · Sunrise to sunset daily · Rabies tag required.
6. Canine Beach — Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale keeps its dog beach small and scheduled: a 100-yard posted stretch of sand just north of Sunrise Boulevard, open in morning and evening windows rather than all day. The City of Fort Lauderdale's dog-friendly places page carries the current hours — check it before you load the car, because this beach's schedule has changed more than once. Dogs need current vaccinations and a license, with a maximum of three dogs per handler. Best for: a sunrise swim or a golden-hour splash, timed right.
1269 N Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd, Fort Lauderdale · Posted section only, morning and evening hours · Dogs are not allowed on the rest of Fort Lauderdale Beach.
7. Bark Park at Snyder Park — Fort Lauderdale
The Broward headliner for land dogs: Snyder Park combines a fenced bark park with something almost no other South Florida park offers — a freshwater dog swim area at East Lake — inside 93 shaded acres of trails and picnic pavilions near the airport. And since November 2024, Fort Lauderdale also allows leashed dogs (six-foot leash, adult handler) in all 110 city parks, so the on-leash walk no longer needs a special destination. Best for: swimmers, and a full shaded park day.
3299 SW 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale · Fenced bark park plus dog swim lake · Check the city page for dog swim days and hours.
Palm Beach County
8. Jupiter Dog Beach — Jupiter
The crown jewel of dog friendly South Florida. Jupiter Dog Beach stretches 2.5 miles along A1A, from crossover #25 to #59, where dogs may run off leash if they stay under voice control — leash up from the car to the sand, around small children, and at the crossovers. Crossover #43 is handicap accessible, free dog bags are provided at the crossovers, and dogs are not allowed in lifeguarded areas or Town of Jupiter parks. The volunteer group Friends of Jupiter Beach has kept this privilege alive for more than 25 years by keeping the sand clean — return the favor. Best for: the best dog beach day in South Florida, full stop.
Along A1A, Jupiter, between Marcinski Rd and Carlin Park · 2.5 miles of designated dog beach · Leash or reliable voice control at all times.
9. Pooch Pines Dog Park — West Palm Beach
Inside the 1,700-acre Okeeheelee Park, Pooch Pines is Palm Beach County doing dog parks properly: two large-dog sections (one open at a time on a rotation for rest and maintenance), a small-dog section, a double-gated entry, a paved dog wash station, drinking fountains, and shaded benches — then miles of leashed trails around the rest of the park. Best for: a proper off-leash session plus a long cool-down walk.
7715 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach (Okeeheelee Park) · Sunrise to sunset · Closed Wednesdays 12–3 PM for maintenance.
10. Canine Cove Dog Park — Boca Raton area
The biggest menu of sections in the county system: at Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, Canine Cove offers two large-dog sections, a medium-dog section, and a small-dog section, four gazebos, shaded benches, pet drinking fountains, and a dog washing station big enough for two dogs. Best for: medium dogs who are too big for the small pen and too polite for the big one — and anyone driving home with a sandy dog.
12551 Glades Rd, west of Boca Raton · Sunrise to sunset · Closed Wednesdays 12–3 PM for maintenance.
11. Lake Ida Dog Park — Delray Beach
The Atlantic Avenue day, with a dog run in the middle of it. Lake Ida Dog Park has two large-dog sections on rotation, a small-dog section, a double-gated entry, a paved wash station, and restrooms and parking right there — an easy pairing with a leashed stroll and lunch in Delray afterwards. County rules apply across all Palm Beach County dog parks: a two-dog limit per person, current vaccinations and licenses, and no puppies under four months. Best for: Delray locals and small-dog owners.
1455 Lake Ida Rd, Delray Beach · Sunrise to sunset · Closed Thursdays 12–3 PM for maintenance.
12. Lake Woof Dog Park — Lake Worth Beach
Palm Beach County calls Lake Woof, inside John Prince Memorial Park, its newest and largest dog park: small, medium, and large sections, five gazebos with benches, a dog washing station, and lakefront parkland all around it for the leashed part of the day. Best for: a big-park outing in the middle of the county, with room for every size of dog.
2520 Lake Worth Rd, Lake Worth Beach (John Prince Memorial Park) · Sunrise to sunset · Closed Thursdays 12–3 PM for maintenance.
Before you go: the rules that actually matter
Leash to the gate. Almost everywhere on this list, off-leash play is legal only inside the fence or the marked beach section — the walk from the car is leashed, every time. Bring proof of vaccinations and a license; several cities require a current rabies tag on the dog. Beat the heat. Midday sand and asphalt burn paws — the dog beaches reward sunrise and late-afternoon visits, and every park here is better before 10 AM. Clean up. South Florida's dog beaches survive because owners police them; Jupiter's has lasted 25-plus years on exactly that bargain. And confirm the day's hours on the official page before a long drive — maintenance closures and schedule changes are normal.
